Speaker profile

Prof. Dr. Matthias Beller

Scientific Director and Head of Applied Homogeneous Catalysis

Leibniz Institute for Catalysis

Matthias Beller, a German chemist, is renowned for his work on developing sustainable chemical processes.

His research group is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly and cost-effective homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes. Selected fields of application are benign carbonylation, hydrogenation, amination and oxidation reactions with molecularly defined or nanostructured metal catalysts, which are important for many fine chemical and life science processes.

As a recent example, the group of Beller has developed a non-toxic method of making carbon dioxide available as a resource for carbon monoxide to produce important chemical building blocks.

He has held leading positions in the chemical industry and academia, and his work involves collaborating with industry to transfer research results into practical applications.

Beller has over 1100 publications and 100 patents to his name.
