SPEAKER PROFILE

Prof. Dr. Harald Gröger

Professor of Industrial Organic Chemistry and Biotechnology
University of Bielefeld

Professor Harald Gröger is a distinguished industrial organic chemist with over two decades’ experience creating environmentally friendly and cost-effective homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes. He completed his studies in chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and the University of Oldenburg in Germany and then went on to complete his doctoral thesis at the University of Oldenburg under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Martens followed by a postdoctoral research stay in the group of Prof. Dr. Masakatsu Shibasaki at the University of Tokyo.

Gröger's research focuses on organic chemistry, biocatalysis, and sustainable chemical processes. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions, including the Carl-Duisberg-Memorial Prize in 2008, the Otto Roelen Medal in 2014, and the "Centre in Green Chemistry and Catalysis-Lecturer 2013-2014" at the University of Montreal and McGill University in Canada.

Gröger has held leading positions in the chemical industry (from 1998 to 2006) and academia (since 2006), including serving as a project manager in the Project House Biotechnology of Degussa AG and as a senior project manager at the Service Center Biocatalysis of Degussa AG. Since 2011 he has held a position as professor of organic chemistry at Bielefeld University. Gröger’s work involves collaborating with industry to transfer research results into practical applications.
